Canadian Landscape Artist: Shelley Leach
Through her artwork Shelley Leach hopes to inspire our desire to preserve the natural beauty that surrounds us. Her work is both artistic and archival. "I am always aware of the fragile nature of our landscape, and how the environmental impacts of today, can change our natural surroundings irrevocably tomorrow."
Born in Kingston Ontario, Shelley grew up in a military family. Her father a career army officer, her mother landscape/military artist Mary Louise Leach (1945-2003). Showing a keen interest in the arts, Shelley's mother taught her the fundamentals of painting at a very early age. Under the tutelage of her mother, Shelley was able to accompany and work with various Canadian artists.
Her extensive world travels, combined with time spent at family cottages, hunt camps and the logging roads and rivers of Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec, provided her with innumerable subject matter and a deep understanding of these provincial landscapes. For over 20 years, Shelley has incorporated her skill in oil, acrylic and watercolour and has a studio based in Kars, Ontario.
She has works held in corporate, public and private collections, including The City of Ottawa Fine Art Collection and The Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society.
